What happens when a Granite Belt tree change meets a passion for small-batch winemaking? You get our Winery of the Season, now pouring at Parliament.

For more than 20 years, husband and wife team Warren and Sue have crafted elegant, cool-climate Stanthorpe wines with passion and integrity. Their boutique winery sits nestled in the foothills of Girraween, just 20 minutes from Stanthorpe in the heart of the Granite Belt.

A Hands-On Philosophy

The winery’s philosophy centres on producing small volumes of handcrafted wine. Every stage of the process takes place on site and is carried out by hand, from vine pruning, training and harvesting to basket pressing, bottling and labelling.

This small-batch, hands-on approach ensures each wine is a true expression of the Granite Belt landscape and their dedication to the art of winemaking.

A Tree Change to the Granite Belt

Warren and Sue established their Stanthorpe vineyard in 1999, inspired by a desire for a lifestyle change. Embracing their Granite Belt tree change, they planted every vine by hand and personally nurtured them through those formative early seasons.

Like all farmers, they experienced the peaks and troughs of rural life, including several very dry seasons while the vines were young. Irrigation practices evolved over time, encouraging the vines to develop deep roots and draw water naturally from the soil, strengthening both vine and flavour.

From Packing Shed to Cellar Door

The winery began modestly, with essential machinery including a crusher, basket press, a few barrels and stainless-steel tanks. Over time, their equipment list has grown, including the addition of an airbag press to process white varietals.

The old packing shed, dating back to the 1930s, was gradually transformed into the cellar door. Officially opened in 2003 with just four wines, Pyramids Road Wines now produces ten varietals across a range of styles.

While early vintages were made exclusively from estate-grown fruit, recent years have seen the purchase of small parcels of locally grown fruit to complement production. Their Verdelho and Chardonnay are sourced from select vineyards in the Ballandean district.

Our current Pyramids Road Wines selection at Parliament features the 2024 Barrel Ferment Chardonnay, the 2025 Foot Stomped Rosé and the 2024 Mourvèdre Limited Release, each crafted on the Granite Belt and showcasing the diversity of this cool-climate Queensland region.
