Relish in the Tradition of High Tea
While tea has been an integral part of British culture since the reign of King Charles II in the 1660s, high tea or afternoon tea evolved in the nineteenth century, around the time the Queensland Parliament House was built. It was an essential part of Victorian culture and was popular among both the working class and British aristocracy.
British settlers brought this tradition to Queensland, where it has remained popular with people across the city and the state. Our high tea brings this tradition to life while breathing new life into this mid-day meal. We seamlessly blend new flavours with classical music, architecture and history.
Located in the Exclusive Strangers’ Restaurant
The Strangers’ Restaurant at Queensland Parliament House has its own rich history. Initially, only for male members of Parliament, it was opened to the public in 2006 and has since become one of the most beloved dining establishments in the state. It was built in 1865 along with the rest of the Parliament House and still features its classic Renaissance Revival design. This allows you to step back in time while embracing the cherished tradition of high tea.
