Melbourne Cup Moments at Strangers’ Dining Room
Strangers’ Dining Room came alive for a sold-out Melbourne Cup this week. Guests gathered to celebrate the race that stops the nation in one of Brisbane’s most historic settings. From pre-event bubbles at Lucinda Bar to the live telecast from Flemington, it was a day of fine food, great conversations, and timeless heritage.
A refined race-day experience
Guests were welcomed at Lucinda Bar before moving into Strangers’ Dining Room for a bespoke menu. The atmosphere was festive yet relaxed. Perfect for enjoying an expertly curated luncheon and catching every moment of the Cup on the big screens. Our beverage offering showcased Queensland wines, spirits, and craft beers alongside classic race-day favourites.
Style, conversation, and a little friendly competition
Race day is as much about the company as the horses. Tables compared tips, sweepstakes drew plenty of laughs, and the best-dressed moment delivered runway-worthy snapshots of style. Thank you to everyone who embraced the occasion with good humour and impeccable flair.

A venue with a story
Strangers’ Restaurant was once the Members’ Dining Room, reserved solely for Members of Parliament and their guests. Today, we’re proud to welcome the wider community to experience the building’s heritage and hospitality through lunch, dinner, and high tea, plus special events like Melbourne Cup. It’s a rare chance to enjoy modern dining in a venue layered with Queensland’s political and social history.
