Tamborine Mountain Distillery is now pouring at Queensland Parliament, bringing the flavours of the Gold Coast Hinterland to George Street.
Nestled in the heart of the hinterland, Tamborine Mountain Distillery is a shining example of Queensland’s craft spirit culture, and it is now featured across Queensland Parliament’s Dining venues. Surrounded by subtropical rainforest, fertile soils and the natural beauty of Tamborine Mountain, the distillery creates small-batch spirits that showcase the flavours, creativity and character of the region.
Pioneering Craft Spirits for over 30 Years
Established in 1993, Tamborine Mountain Distillery is Queensland’s oldest craft distillery and one of Australia’s most awarded. For more than three decades, they have led the state’s craft distilling movement, producing premium, handcrafted spirits that honour traditional techniques while embracing innovation.
From Orchard to Distillery
This family-owned distillery began when Michael and Alla Svetlana Ward moved from Tasmania to their property in Tamborine Mountain. Once a neglected citrus and avocado orchard, the land was transformed by Michael, a passionate gardener who personally planted every tree.
With an abundance of fruit on hand, Alla Ward, the founding master distiller with Ukrainian heritage, saw an opportunity to craft exceptional schnapps, vodkas, liqueurs, and eaux-de-vie using the property’s crops. Their inaugural release, a Citrus Brandy Liqueur named Bells of Saint Clements, became the first brandy liqueur produced at the distillery.
Celebrating Local Ingredients and Craft
The distillery proudly sources the finest local ingredients, supporting regional growers and celebrating Queensland in every bottle. Their range reflects flavours inspired by rainforest surrounds, tropical fruit, and native botanicals, offering a true taste of the Gold Coast hinterland.
Sharing the Spirit of Queensland
Today, their mission is simple: to create exceptional spirits that tell the story of their place. Each bottle reflects the passion, care, and creativity behind small-batch distilling. As pioneers of Queensland’s craft spirit scene, they continue to share the flavours of the hinterland with locals and visitors alike.

Signature Sip: The Macadamia Sour
A standout favourite, the Macadamia Liqueur is a smooth, nutty indulgence known for its rich and distinctive profile. You can experience it in our Macadamia Sour cocktail at Lucinda Bar, bringing a taste of the hinterland directly to Queensland Parliament.
A Taste of Queensland at Parliament
Showcasing Queensland, one glass at a time, is now part of the experience at Lucinda Bar and Strangers’ Restaurant. Guests can enjoy carefully made beverages that not only taste exceptional but also tell the story of where they were crafted.
Working with the Queensland Distillers Association, and supported by the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Mr Pat Weir MP, our venues have shifted their spirit offering to shine a light on locally produced spirits.
This initiative highlights Queensland Parliament’s dedication to celebrating local talent and enterprise. From coastal communities to inland regions, every distiller contributes unique flavours, stories and skills to our precinct.
