Elevated Express Lunch Experience at Queensland Parliament

Brisbane diners can now enjoy an elevated lunchtime experience in one of the city’s most historic settings with the launch of the Express Lunch at Strangers’ Restaurant inside Queensland Parliament House.

Available for $42 per person, the Express Lunch offers a refined yet efficient dining option, perfect for business meetings, midweek catch-ups or a quick escape from the office.

The curated experience includes chef’s snacks, freshly baked bread, a main course selected from the seasonal menu, and a drink. Guests can choose from a glass of the Winery of the Season wine, beer, soft drink, or juice.

Designed for guests who want exceptional quality without sacrificing time, the Express Lunch showcases modern Australian cuisine with a focus on fresh seasonal ingredients and locally sourced produce.

For those looking to linger longer, Strangers’ Restaurant also offers an à la carte dining experience for lunch and dinner, with two courses available for $79 and three courses for $99. A five-course tasting menu is also available for $130, with the option to add paired wines for $55.

Executive Chef at Parliament House, Anthony Naylor, said the menu places a strong emphasis on celebrating local ingredients.

“Queensland is home to extraordinary growers and producers, and our menu is designed to showcase that incredible produce. By focusing on seasonal ingredients and thoughtful preparation, we create a refined dining experience that celebrates the flavours of our state,” Mr Naylor said.

Located within the historic Parliament House precinct, Strangers’ Restaurant is one of Brisbane’s most distinctive dining destinations, combining fine food, impeccable service, and a unique heritage setting.

Originally known as the Members’ Dining Room, the restaurant has been part of Queensland Parliament House for more than a century. The dining room retains many of its late nineteenth-century features, including ornate detailing, parquet flooring, and early Australian cedar furnishings.

The restaurant’s name reflects parliamentary tradition, with the term “strangers” historically referring to visitors to Parliament who are not Members. Today, Strangers’ Restaurant welcomes both Members and the public to enjoy a dining experience that blends history with contemporary cuisine.

Strangers’ Restaurant is open to the public for lunch Wednesday to Friday, and for dinner on Friday during non-sitting weeks. Special High Tea experiences are also offered on select Tuesdays throughout the year.

In addition to public dining, the elegant space is also available for private events and functions, accommodating up to 80 guests.
